Concussion Management
Concussion can be defined as a disruption in a normal function of the brain that can be caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body.
Concussions are often talked about in terms of athletes, but can be seen across many different populations. Concussions can occur from falls, car accidents, and multiple different situations in sporting events.
Recently at the 5th International Conference on Concussion in Sports there was a consensus statement released regarding the ways to diagnose and manage concussions. One of the biggest changes in this statement was adding rehabilitation as an important step in managing concussions. There are many different signs and symptoms that arise from concussions that a physical therapist can address and treat.
As physical therapists we can perform a targeted and comprehensive physical exam to determine what needs each individual has. Each concussion is different and even if you have had one before your symptoms may not be the same. Based on the results of your exam, a specialized program will be developed to target the areas that are most needed for that individual. Our goal is to get you back to your normal life as quickly as possible whether that is getting back in the game or returning to work .
Our team has the only providers on the peninsula using comprehensive training interventions and we maintain open communication with your coaches and or doctors.
